A dialog is a communication between two participants, often, in our work, an intelligent agent and a human. Many researchers concentrate on training and evaluating their intelligent agents solely on the performance or past history of the agent itself, without reference to the user's perception of the agent's output. Yet, in order to be successful in a dialog, an agent must be regarded as one part of that two-way communication channel, where the role of the user is just as important, if not more important, than that of the agent. In this talk I will present ideas for training and assessing agents that are focused on the user.
